About Hypnotherapy
Imagine it ... Believe it ...
and change YOUR life ...
How can I use Hypnotherapy change my life?
Psychotherapy (focused discussion) can assist in helping you to work out how you would like things to be different (what should go, what should stay and what should change) and
Hypnotherapy can re-focus your subconscious mind to accept your new way of life, exactly how you would like it to be.
You may have firm ideas of what has to change, and that's great! ...
... or you may not know exactly how you would like your life to be different, simply that it has to change from how it is now, and that's fine too. Through Psychotherapy, I can help you to identify waht needs to change and how you would like things to be different.
What is Hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a very enjoyable state of deep relaxation which we all naturally passes through every day - both when we fall asleep and again when we awaken, so there really is no need to be afraid. This process simply happens so quickly that we often do not notice it. By experiencing hypnosis during a session, you will enable you to recognise the hypnotic state and to use it for your own benefit in the future.
What if I fall asleep during Hypnotherapy?
Although the word 'Hypnos' is the Greek word for 'sleep', you are not likely to fall asleep during your therapy session, as you will be in unfamiliar surroundings, which can create a low level of anxiety. If I do think you may be asleep, I will gently suggest that you re-awaken before continuing with therapy.
When you listen to your therapeutic CD at home, you may well fall asleep in the relaxing and safe environment of your home - this is perfectly fine - your subconscious mind will continue to listen and to benefit from the content on the CD. If you are simply relaxing during the daytime, the CD will gently suggest that you awaken.
If it is your normal bedtime and you are safe and sleeping in your bed, you will continue to sleep until it is normal and natural for you to awaken.
What will Happen during a Session?
During consultation and the first part of the therapy session, the therapist will provide a safe, confidential and non-judgemental environment for you to discuss in detail how you would like life to be different. It is not unusual for someone to be unsure how they would like things to be different - you may simply know that some things have to change. Some people know exactly what has to change, but you may feel that there is a tiny part of you that is unable to change, and often that's the influence of the subconscious mind.
During hypnotherapy, you are simply asked to relax and to close your eyes, to listen to my voice and to the relaxing music. You are guided very gently and very safely into the hypnotic state that exists between waking and sleeping, which for most people is a very relaxing state to experience.
As the conscious mind is relaxing, the subconscious mind is open to positive suggestions, which are based specifically on the information gathered during discussion.
I will always guide you at first to create a very safe and special place where you can relax in your mind and you can return here whenever you want to in the future. This safe and special place is used during therapy if you need to return here as you process underlying anxieties and fears in order to reach your goal.
Contrary to popular belief, the client is fully aware of everything that the therapist is saying and cannot be made to do or say anything that they do not wish to do or say!
What else might happen?
Various other therapeutic techniques can be used both within and outside of hypnosis depending upon the issue described, always with your consent and understanding, for the purpose of reaching your goal.
Why is is helpful if I believe it will work? Does that mean that it won't work if I don't believe in it?
Hypnotherapy requires you to relax and preferably, to close your eyes. If you are too worried or concerned about what might happen to you during the process of hypnotherapy, you may find it very difficult to relax, and therefore hypnotherapy can be less effective or not appropriate.
If you are sceptical of hypnotherapy but are willing to relax and give it a try, that's great! If you would like to try hypnotherapy but find it difficult to relax, I can help you to relax by using different techniques.
As long as you are willling to relax and give it a go, you may be pleasantly surprised how relaxed you can allow your body to become.
I always have to be in control - can you still help me?
Yes, I can still help you, as long as you want to be helped.
Hypnosis is a very powerful tool and the power is always under the control of the client and NOT the therapist. You can ALWAYS bring yourself out of the hypnotic state whenever you want to; just because you are totally relaxed in your body, it does not mean that you are not in control. You have simply chosen to take time to relax. This is particulalry helpful for those of us who find it very difficult to take time out from the busy world to relax and it can be used as often as you like in the future.
How can I use this in my future?
Through experiencing hypnosis through a guided session, you are taught how to use self-hypnosis, a tool that can be used for the rest of your life, to enhance your ability to change the things you wish to change and to enjoy being the person you are.
A personal CD is also provided for home use to allow you to continue therapy at home and to support your progress.
