EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitisation
and Re-Processing

EMDR is the recommended therapy by National Institute for Clinical Excellence for trauma, however big or small.

A trauma is something that someone has experienced that they have found unpleasant.

EMDR can help with very simple or more complex fears or phobias; trauma through being part of, or witnessing, accidents or incidents; or other trauma such as abuse (sexual, emotional or physical, including bullying perhaps from many years ago).   EMDR is also the treatment of choice for trauma related to work, for example, experiences of police officers, ambulance staff, soldiers, etc.

Do you have memories that "seem like they were only yesterday"
but were actually many moons ago?

If they are good, pleasant and happy memories, that's great!!

If they are memories that spin around in your head and bring with them all of the unpleasant emotions and beliefs from the time when they occurred, that's not so great... but the good news is that you can process them away in a very short space of time using this technique called EMDR.

These memories can bring about physical symptoms (often similar to panic attacks - fast breathing, sweaty palms, etc.) which may be unresponsive to other medical interventions.  They can come to mind when you least want them to, changing your moods, preventing you from taking part in things you would really like to be part of or stopping you from getting a good night's rest.

EMDR allows your mind to process such memories in a very safe and natural way, allowing them to drop back into the past where they belong, letting go of everything relevant that is negative, allowing you to continue through your life with the more positive aspects of your life driving you forwards.

If you would like to lighten your load by processing away your baggage, please contact me by clicking hereand completing your details.
If you 'Google' EMDR, you will see that you are encouraged to find a registered EMDR specialist who has trained with experts in this field.  You can be assured that I have completed this training with EMDR Workshops Ltd under the instruction of EMDR Europe Approved Trainers, who were trained by Francine Shapiro, the originator of EMDR and am therefore qualified to use this technique in my therapies where appropriate.

Please note: EMDR can be an emotional therapy - it aims to bring about the emotions from the past for the very last time, allowing them to leave the memory, so that the memory can remain but can be thought about in a non-emotive way (as most of our memories are stored).  You will NOT lose memories from the past.  You will NOT gain false memories.

It is not necessary for clients to explain all details of their thoughts to the therapist for this to be successful.  The largest part of the processing can be done in the privacy of your mind.

I would expect simple phobias, fears, memories of single incidents to be processed in just one session.  Other more complex trauma would be expected to need more sessions.

If in doubt, please ask .... no obligation to book a session.
