The beliefs and understandings upon which my therapies are based are as follows;
The body consists of many systems - the endocrine system, the digestive system, the blood system, the psychological system, etc. etc.  
Daily life involves us employing many, if not all of these systems.  Depending upon how we experience the environment, the psychological system can become unbalanced.  For example, we can hold negative or unhelpful beliefs (often in the subconscious mind) about our ‘self’, stemming from many varied sources across the whole of our life span.  When the psychological system becomes unbalanced (a bit like having a virus on the computer), then the other systems can become affected, or ‘infected’.  We can then experience symptoms from within these other systems - skin problems, weight problems, fears, phobias, pain.  
Therapy aims to re-balance the psychological system, believed then to have an impact upon the physical symptoms.  
For example, a small child sees a plane crash on TV - he or she subconsciously learns that travelling by plane is dangerous.  When they are an adult, they book a flight for a family holiday, but when boarding the plane, they experience heart palpitations, sweaty palms, racing thoughts, churning stomach.  The subconscious mind produces these bodily responses to stop the person from entering a ‘potentially dangerous’ situation, as learned in childhood.  Removing the underlying belief that ‘planes are dangerous’ should remove any related symptoms and the adult can fly without concerns.  
Please be aware that dealing with a fear or a feeling often involves finding the source, so sometimes the process can dig deep into the past, or into seemingly unrelated issues that are occurring right now.   Taking out the root of the issue (instead of simply mowing the lawn) can often be the best way of reducing the chances of its return - in many cases, removing it completely.  This can be painful, as you experience negative emotions that you may have been hiding away for some time.  Yet this is the pain that you are currently carrying around with you - perhaps it’s time to let it go - you don’t need to carry it any more.
